The people that make Dogwood so special
Dr. Lindsay Riddick
Fear Free Certified Professional
Lindsay was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri where she still maintains strong ties. The vet clinic even received its name after Missouri’s state tree, the dogwood. Raised among many pets, both domestic and exotic, Lindsay has always had a passion for caring for animals. One of her favorite memories is when she took a baby fawn to school that was still being bottle fed! Her free time was most always spent with her menagerie of furry friends, with a serious focus on her equestrian career, of which she excelled in throughout college. Upon graduating magnum cum laude from the University of Missouri’s undergraduate program, she decided to make her passion her career, which meant staying in Columbia to attend the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated from in 2010. Rescuing an elderly lab when she was in her early twenties inspired her to pursue a career in animal care. The lab, Roscoe, had been chained to a tree for years, and the neglect he suffered left him with serious injuries and illnesses. Luckily, he was able to overcome his ailments with love and medical care. Because of him she learned just how precious the human to animal bond can be. She has dedicated her life to fostering life-changing relationships with her pets, while witnessing the amazing connections people have with theirs.
Dr. Riddick now shares her home with her Great Dane, Ferdinand. She enjoys spending her free time hiking and spending time with her horse Boogie, a National Show horse she’s had for 20 years, and his sidekick, a miniature donkey named Biscuit.
Dr. matthew ray
Dr. Matthew Ray is a recent graduate from the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class. Matt has always had a passion for animals; as a child he would consistently ask to go to the zoo and always attempted to adopt the lone cat at the shelter no one else wanted. Dr. Ray is originally from Maryland, where he grew up with his cat Lucky and his dog Skittles. Eventually, he moved to Burlington, Vermont in 2009 where he graduated from the University of Vermont with a BS in Zoology. After completing his undergraduate degree, Matt moved to Austin and worked as a veterinary technician for our very own Dr. Riddick and was even trained by our now receptionist, Alfonso. Matt is so excited to begin his veterinary career with those that have been so influential in his education. Dr. Ray’s interests in veterinary medicine include both internal medicine and feline medicine. He currently lives in Austin with his cat Josie, who herself is an Austin native. Dogwood could not be prouder in welcoming both Dr. Ray and Josie to the team!
Dr. Stacey Hodges, DVM
Stacy began her passion for veterinary medicine in 2002 when she began working in a kennel after school. After graduating from the University of North Texas in 2007 with a BS in Biology and Chemistry, she completed her veterinary education at Ross University on St. Kitts in the Caribbean. She finished clinical rotations at Auburn University in January 2012. Stacy takes great interest in all animals — small, large, and exotic — and specializes in internal medicine, including ultrasonography.
Dr. David Allman, surgeon
Meet Dr. David Allman. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, he attended the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate student before heading off to Aggieland for veterinary school. During his 4 years at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Allman realized his passion for veterinary surgery and committed to pursuing surgical specialization. By starting a mobile specialty surgery practice here in Austin, Texas, Dr. Allman is able to provide complicated surgical procedures to many pets that would not otherwise be able to receive specialty care. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Allman can be found enjoying the great outdoors, and exploring Austin with his wife, Summer. Occasionally, Dr. Allman is able to participate in the sport of golf where his patience and precision are tested before heading back to the surgical suite on Monday.
Stephanie Betancourt, practice manager
Fear Free Certified Professional
Stephanie was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up, she spent a lot of her time working with the local animal shelters and the wildlife refuge. Her parents could always count on her to bring any and every stray she found home. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Child Development from Eastern Kentucky University. She then completed her Masters of Science in Social Work at the University of Louisville after finishing her fellowship in Pediatric Psychosocial Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She and her wife, Janeth, moved to Austin with their dogs Tobey and Tilley in the summer of 2015. They soon needed a vet and visited a downtown vet clinic, where Dr. Lindsay Riddick was working. They quickly realized what a strong connection Tobey and Tilley forged with Dr. Riddick, a connection so strong that when Dr. Riddick opened Dogwood Animal Clinic, Stephanie and Janeth made sure Tobey and Tilley continued their care with Dr. Riddick in Round Rock. As more connections developed, Stephanie agreed to assist as an interim office manager during the first weeks of transition between McLeod Animal Clinic and Dogwood. Happily, Stephanie decided to put her years of office management to good use with her favorite vet and made the decision to leave her career in oncology to run Dogwood Animal Clinic full-time. Stephanie’s passion has always been animals, and she is now doing what she was always meant to do.
